Cooper Wedding

On Saturday 28th October 2017, XO, Wedding Band in Surrey, had the pleasure of playing the evening reception of Lucinda and Austin’s wedding at the stunning Ewell Court House. We had an absolutely amazing time with the new Mr and Mrs Cooper, and all their guests!

The Venue

This was our first visit to Ewell Court House, a Grade II listed historic building, set right by a lakeside park in Ewell, near Epsom – the setting is just beautiful. The building doesn’t disappoint either, and the inside is perfect for a wedding, the perfect mixture of old and new. After driving down the side of the building to an easy load in (great news!), we were treated to the sight of an amazing evening reception room. We love having a large room to perform in – it means all the guests can be involved, whether that’s up front on the dance floor, or watching on from a nearby table – and the main room at Ewell Court House is ideal.

The Set Up

We arrived at the venue just before 17:30, to see most of the guests enjoying the surprisingly mild October weather – probably the last of it! The day had run very smoothly and so the room had been cleared and emptied ready for us to load in. This was perfect and meant we could be discreet with our set up, and guests would enjoy the put together reveal for the evening. The easy set up meant everything was ready quite swiftly, and it was time for a quick sound check. It was lovely to meet Lucinda and hear how lovely their day had been, and then it was time to gather guests for the cutting of the cake. Lucinda and Austin had opted for a cheese cake instead of the traditional sponge, for a pure love of cheese! However, everyone had to wait as we were missing one important person – Austin’s father! After he arrived, Lucinda and Austin cut their cake to many cheers. Lucinda then introduced Austin’s parents, explaining their special wedding anniversary was coming up soon. It was a special moment as they also cut a cake to mark the occasion. Once the cake cutting had finished, it was time for the first dance!

The First Dance

Rule The World – Take That

A first dance is such a lovely part of a wedding, and it is amazing for us to be a part of. We love seeing different couple’s song choices, as it is so personal, and often a very difficult decision! Lucinda and Austin had chosen Take That’s ‘Rule the World’ for us to perform, which went down amazingly. It was such a fun song for us to play too, especially with all the vocal harmonies for us to get our teeth into! The dance floor was soon full and the evening had truly begun!

Live Party Band

We continued our first set with a few old classics and must have choices, including ‘Young Hearts Run Free’ by Candi Staton, and then ‘Dancing In The Moonlight’. After a couple from our disco medley (Happy, Signed Sealed Delivered, Valerie etc.), we performed a request from the couple – Roy Orbison’s ‘Pretty Woman’, which was a special song for the family. Th

e guests loved this one and everyone was singing along! We brought the set to an end with some rock and roll, and some classic tracks from The Beatles, ‘Twist and Shout’ and ‘I Saw Her Standing There’. It was time for us to take a short break, but the crowd continued on the dance floor to the DJ music, and were definitely ready for more!

We kicked off our second and final set with a classic crowd pleaser, ‘All Night Long’ by Lionel Richie, and kept the 80’s vibe going with ‘Kiss’ by Prince, and ‘Footloose’ With the party going strong, it was time for our Party Medley which includes some modern classics. We love playing this group of songs, starting with Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic”, which is such fun to perform

. The medley continues with tracks such as “Shape Of You” and “Shut Up and Dance”. To round off the evening, we played a few rocky songs including a special request – ‘Dakota’ by the Stereophonics, before ending with ‘Chasing Cars’, as this was Lucinda’s aisle march. The crowd wasn’t quite ready to finish, and twisted our arms to play one final song! Of course we performed our favourite finale number, ‘Don’t stop me now’, which was the perfect ending to an incredible evening!

We would like to thank the new Mr and Mrs Cooper for choosing us as their wedding entertainment – we had so much fun with you and your wonderful guests! Congratulations once again, and best of luck for everything in your married future!
