Wogan Wedding

On Saturday December 30th 2017, for the last wedding of the year, XO Surrey Wedding Band joined Lucy and Callum to celebrate at the Woodlands Park Hotel, Cobham. We loved being a part of Mr and Mrs Wogan’s special day – what an amazing way to round off the year!

The Venue

Woodlands Park Hotel is a beautiful country house hotel in Cobham, Surrey, built in 1885. The hotel was the perfect setting for the day’s celebrations – Lucy and Callum had exclusive use of the hotel for the day. A large room was laid out for the wedding breakfast and also transformed for the evening reception. This was the first time we had been to Woodlands Park, and what a lovely venue. The room was ideal for our set up and the evening party – plenty of space for our equipment, as well as a large dance floor and tables still set up around the room for people to sit and watch on.

The Set Up

We arrived at the hotel at 4:30 to ensure we had plenty of time to set up and be ready for the evening. As the party were finishing their meal, we loaded most of our gear into a nearby space to save time until we could move in! This was the perfect time for us to have our food, which was delicious! When the guests had moved through to the next room for tea and coffee, it was time for the room turnaround. The staff were extremely helpful and cleared the room very quickly – tables were cleared and some packed away to make room for the dance floor. We transferred our equipment through to the performance space, and got on with our set up! Once everything was plugged in, the sound check went smoothly and it was time to fill the room ready for Lucy and Callum’s first dance!

The First Dance

Something Just Like This – The Chainsmokers & Coldplay

Lucy and Callum had chosen the hit song ‘Something Just Like This’ by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay for their first dance, but they had advised us on a particular version of the song they liked. This version is a cover by Alex Goot and Madilyn Bailey, which is a beautiful stripped back version with piano and vocals. Everyone would know the song, the lyrics are lovely and this version was perfect for a romantic first dance! We thought this was a great choice and a new one for us to play! All their guests crowded round the dance floor and the new Mr and Mrs Wogan enjoyed their first dance surrounded by their loved ones.

Live Party Band

To kick off the evening with a bang, we followed the first dance with Walk The Moon’s ‘Shut Up And Dance’, and everyone was ready to party! We continued with some classic sing-alongs like ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’ and ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ before jumping into our disco medley, including Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ and the ever popular ‘Valerie’ by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse. We concluded the first set with the requested ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, which left everyone wanting more.

We began the second set with a bit of Lionel – ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’, which is always guaranteed to fill the dance floor. A big highlight from this set was performing Train’s ‘Drops Of Jupiter’. The couple had specially requested this song, and what a treat. Everyone crowded the floor in a big circle and sang along at the top of their voices! What a great song to play, thanks guys! To round off the set, we played a few rocky tunes including ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’, ‘Summer of ‘69’ and ‘Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’.

For the final set, we began with our party medley – ‘24K Magic’ into Beyoncé’s ‘Crazy In Love’ and Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ – we don’t mess about! With a packed dance floor, we continued with a mixtures of classics like The Proclaimers, ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’, ‘Wannabe’ by The Spice Girls and the party favourite ‘Mr Brightside’. We finished the night with the bride and groom back in the centre of the dance floor and some classic Oasis. Everyone got involved and sang (shouted) the words to the newly married couple.

What an amazing evening, and a great crowd! Thank you so much to Mr and Mrs Wogan for having us as your wedding entertainment – it’s such an honour to be included in your special day. We hope everyone had an amazing time, and hopefully hadn’t completely lost their voices in the morning!

Congratulations again to Lucy and Callum.
